4 Simple Steps to Quickly Cool a Cake

When you first pull your cake out of the oven, it will be very hot. It's important to properly cool your cake before frosting or decorating it.

Warm Cake?

While cooling does take time, there are a few shortcuts you can take to cool down your cake more quickly.

Step #1

Ditch the Pan

The first thing to do is to remove the cake from the pan. Your cake pan retain a lot of the heat from the oven, so removing the cake helps it cool faster.

Step #2

Cooling Rack

A cooling rack should always be in your bag of tricks for cooling a cake. By using a cooling rack, you allow airflow from all sides, which leads to faster cooling.

Step #3

Cut It

For the same reason as using a cooling rack, simply cutting your cake will help it cool down faster. Cut your cake into thin, horizontal layers with a serrated knife.

Step #4

Fridge or Freezer

In conjunction with the previous methods, placing your warm cake in the fridge or freezer can help to cool it down faster. Just don't go too long as it can dry out and affect the texture.
